The United States Olympic basketball team dribbled in a win toward the gold. In today’s opening game against China, team USA won 101 to 70 after a nail biting opening first quarter. Team USA showed great team chemistry throughout the whole game.
Yao Ming, China's most famous athlete, opened the game with a three pointer. This started a Chinese take off in the first quarter, but the Americans fought back winning the first with the score of 20-16. Finally after battling in the 2nd quarter with a 20-7 run, the United States came out on top at half time 49-37.
Lebron James was leading USA with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks. It was amazing to see his movements all over the court. Yao Ming was leading China with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 block. I was surprised he was even in the game after his recent foot surgery.
The Chinese team fell apart in the 2nd half of the game. They fouled continuously and missed several easy shots. Whereas, the Americans never looked back! With 25 points scored in the 3rd quarter the United States continued to lead with a score of 74-48. The unity of the team and their amazing moves lead them all the way.
The Chinese where less fortunate when their best player, Yao Ming, fouled out. Although not in the game and losing by 30 points Yao Ming continued to cheer on his teammates. Finally after the sound of the buzzer, the United States held on to the win with a score of 101 to 70.
At the end of the game Lebron James talked to NBC. "We're taking one team and one game at a time," he said. "This is what we dreamed of. Lets' show the world what we're made of."
