I find the four new designs intersting that they depict something about Lincoln's life. I would have them as collector's items only and have them special ordered. Then leave the original penny as is to keep the cost of making the penny down.

i think the penny should stay because its been around for a long time and it brings back so many things and it would not be fair
Posted by: breanna | September 23, 2008 at 10:30 AM
The new penny looks fine dut we bon't need a new one. what is the point of having a new when the old one is just as good. i think that you should just live it the way it is and not spend money one the new one. what do you think ?
Posted by: kayla | September 23, 2008 at 10:32 AM
Maybe...no :/
Because i am gonna miss the old one D:<
That's all xDDD 8D

coins

I think the story was very interesting because I always wanted to learn about Abraham Lincoln.I must have been lots of fun chopping wood because I've chopped wood and it was fun. They shouldn't make the penny retire because the penny is history and it's important!
Posted by: Taylor | September 23, 2008 at 10:43 AM
I think the penny should not be retiered cause the person thats on the penny did so much for us like ended slavery and he did much more.
Posted by: ALEX | September 23, 2008 at 10:45 AM
I think that the penny is a part of our history and should stay around. I also notice that the new ones are not made of copper. This could be because there is not enough copper, as people are stealing a/c units for the copper to sell. I really like the new designs.

What happened to the inscription, In God We Trust?
Is not considered American Money if it does not include.
Posted by: Lorenzo | September 23, 2008 at 07:30 PM
why does our government do something so foolish as to spend our money to make coins that are not worth as much as it cost to make them? this kind of spending is not smart. i wonder how much will be spent making these coins. i wish this money was going to help people who need it instead of being wasted like this.
Posted by: kim | September 24, 2008 at 01:40 PM
I don't think penny should retire because she is a part of history. But a gold one will be cool.
Posted by: shf | September 24, 2008 at 03:07 PM
I do not think we should have a new penny cause i will
miss the old one.and i like the old one better.
Posted by: Grace | September 28, 2008 at 08:45 PM
I think they shouldent get rid of the penny because th penny has been around before any of our parents were alive
Posted by: cameron | September 29, 2008 at 11:14 AM
this is something that more people should be reading it tells them about the pennys and their history. It ROCKS!!!!!!!
Posted by: Gabbi | September 29, 2008 at 11:16 AM
Let's Keep the old penny And make new ones too!
Posted by: Keepenny | September 29, 2008 at 11:18 AM
I think that the people should vote to see if they want a new penny because a bronze color penny would be very cool and its differnt then the other coins, but some people want a new penny.
Posted by: Kemal | September 29, 2008 at 11:18 AM
I like the idea of a new penny it'll be better to have a new disign and a new resolution. I also think it'll be hard to get use to it again though.
Posted by: Alex | September 29, 2008 at 11:18 AM
I think it is a realy good idea.
Posted by: Collin | September 29, 2008 at 11:19 AM
I don't think the penny should be retired. I also think that it's cool how the pennies show stages of Abraham Lincoln's life.
Posted by: Milo | September 29, 2008 at 11:19 AM

read this hi i liked this article and also if it cost more than a cent to make a cent why are we making it becasue also we are already having money problems in the united states and what is going to happen when we dont have a lot of money casue it cost a lot just to make a penny techniquilly u are losing money by spending more and making less it really kinda stupid also what would happen if we had all silver coins they would all be the same i think personaly you shouldent change it is kinda stupid really i mean what is the point am i roight like whoever is reading this u should be thinking what is the point of it we already have a money problem and that is going to make gas prices go and for that matter if gas goes up alot people wont be able to keep their jobs and they will lose money and will be another great depression and we do not want that to happen and why are they even thinking about it it just is a waste of money casue the more gas the more polution the more polution the more global warming and the more global warming the mre killing polar bears and stuff. and that is my opinon i know it was long and sorry it is soooooo long but u should read this it is good and recontructing really read this really .

Althogh I like the new desines I think we shouldent get rid of the penny because the person that is on the penny ended slavery.
Posted by: cameron | September 29, 2008 at 11:20 AM
I think we shouid because coin collecters as they get older the coins will be more money then just one cent.
Posted by: Noah | September 29, 2008 at 11:21 AM
I like the idea of a new penny is a great idea, it will be better to have a better resolution for our state.I think we should make a gold penny that would be a great time for children to learn what coins are made of.
Posted by: Mykaila | September 29, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Thats cool how they made 4 new pennys with lincoln on them because thats my faverite president.
Posted by: Elijah | September 29, 2008 at 11:26 AM
I have some questions i wonder why the people are making new coins i think we need alot more to spend on lots of expencive things like new cars, houses, and lots of taxes i hope we get more.I just wish you didn't spend your money on just new coins so i hope you do not spend all your money.
Posted by: Mykaila | September 29, 2008 at 11:26 AM
I think the new penny is really cool, but I like the old one too because I'm used to it having Abe Lincoln
on it and having it copper.
Posted by: Zach | September 30, 2008 at 02:24 PM
I think the new penny designs are cool, but the old penny needs to stay, because the president on it is the president that stopped slavery. Abraham Lincoln means a lot to our country.I think the penny should stay copper so it looks different than all the other coins.
Posted by: Emma | September 30, 2008 at 02:25 PM
I don't think that the penny should change because the original penny is like history, and if we want our history to keep changing we are gong to have to keep making and making our new history over and over until what was history is now nothing.
Posted by: Michael | September 30, 2008 at 02:36 PM
I like the new design
Posted by: Sam | October 01, 2008 at 11:00 AM
I think it will be a neat change.I would like to have a new penny.
Posted by: Jack | October 03, 2008 at 02:27 PM
I think we need a penny because people might need a penny
Posted by: Melissa | October 03, 2008 at 02:31 PM
I think it should stay cause number1 it shows that Lincon is important and that we can sum it up if we are 1 cent less
Posted by: Elena | October 03, 2008 at 02:32 PM
I think that the new ideas are cool and I like them I don`t know if we should retier the penny or not.I mean on one hand The penny costs to much but on the other hand the ideas are cool and prises would be rounded up. Tell me your ideas bye.
Posted by: carter | October 03, 2008 at 02:37 PM
I think the penny does not need a make over. The may be the one cent piece that can be used to buy. stuff but it is part of our country and it should stay the same.
Posted by: Paul | October 03, 2008 at 02:38 PM
I think that we should make new pennies because then we'll have the joy of getting one of the new ones unlike when you simply get a normal penny.
Posted by: Adam | October 03, 2008 at 02:43 PM
I think it is cool that they are coming up with a new idea I like the second idea .
Posted by: Avery | October 03, 2008 at 02:45 PM
I think they should keep the penny as is. The penny is important to everyone because it shows the we are America for who we are.The penny is like one person. Take away the penny and what is left?
Posted by: Bridget | October 06, 2008 at 02:36 PM
the new designs are so cool I think there cooler then the old penny. I do not see why they would want to get rid of it and there right now one wants to pay more money for anything.
Posted by: Ryan | October 06, 2008 at 02:39 PM
I think we should keep the pennies and the new designs should be collector items. I think the penny should stay because been here for a long time.
Posted by: Annie | October 06, 2008 at 02:42 PM
No I think the penny should stay the way it is because its been that way for so long
Posted by: Hannah | October 06, 2008 at 02:44 PM
I think the four new coins are really cool for coin collectors to collect but I don't think many people will use them.

Start Saving Your Pennies
How many pennies do you have? I think having a new penny for the United States Of America would be a good idea. I think it would be good because in 50 years from now those pennies will be rare and they may be worth alot of money. SO START SAVING YOUR PENNIES!!!
Posted by: M9i5 | October 06, 2008 at 07:29 PM
I think are regular penny should stay cause were are we going to get the money to make them. I think it would be so cool to have this new silver penny but the regular penny is part of are histopry for many years. It should stay for years on. Of course it would be cool to have this new penny but like I said were are we going to get the money and it was a part of are history. Also are enviorment is doing horrible I don't think this would make are enviroment any better at all. The regular penny has been here for MANY MANY YEARS! It should stay that way or the History is going to have no memorie about are regular penny! It should stay.
Posted by: Grace | October 07, 2008 at 01:51 PM
yes because I think that we need a new penny so it can be a diffrince
Posted by: trevor | October 09, 2008 at 08:15 AM
i think that they should not retire the penny because evey thing will go to the nerest nickel so every thing would cost more. I think that they should just make new desines every couple years so the desines are not all the same. There is a lot of people that collect coins and it would be neat to collect new coins so not every thing cost the same every year.

a silver penny woud be cool if we did have it ti wood be like the other.
Posted by: britt x to the z to the eiiiiiiii | October 09, 2008 at 08:20 AM
I think no one should get rid of the penny. The united states needs it.the united states would have to have all costs even.
Posted by: devin | October 09, 2008 at 08:21 AM
I think the penny should be retired,Because it will show how much we appriciate what Abraham Lincon did for us. I think it is a great idea to retire the penny, because it would be worth more.
