Esperanza Ortega is an only child and the main character in Esperanza Rising, a book by Pam Muñoz Ryan.

Esperanza lives with her family on their ranch in Mexico. After her father is killed, her uncles try to take over her family's land. Esperanza and her mother escape to California, where they must do difficult farm- work. Her mother becomes very ill. How will Esperanza cope with the changes? Will her life be changed forever?

I think this story is interesting,but sad.

I love this book its so good but sad. i read it in my class. i highley recommand it. you can read it in 3rd and 4th and 5th grade! :)

I absoloutely love this book! It is so good and interesting! We read this in our language arts class, and everyone enjoyed it! This would make a great summer reading book. I suggest you read it and give it a try.

I think the Summary of this book needs more detail and stuff; that's just me. I'm not really interested in this book, its to sad for me, but I'm guessing it has a Tragic ending. <3
