The election results were a big victory for the Democratic Party! They won big all over the country. In our own congressional race in South Orange County in California, the incumbent Congressman John Campbell held on to his position in the House of Representatives.
This was not a big surprise as he was expected to win. He is a Republican and was elected in a special election in 2005 when Chris Cox resigned to become Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange commissions. Campbell was re-elected in 2006. He represents the 48th district and won 55 percent of the votes, while the Democrat, Steve Young won 41percent. Another 4 percent of the votes were given to the Libertarian candidate, Don Patterson.
The Democrats won the majority of the seats in the House of Representatives. The democrats have won 258 seats and the Republicans won 177 seats. This means that Senator Obama, the President-elect will have a legislative majority to work with after he takes office.
